The Bee Gees Sgt Pepper Movie

The Niles Public Library is featuring the Beatles for about a month and today my daughter and I went there to see the 1977 Sgt Pepper movie featuring the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton.

There was quite an all star cast and many stars did a cameo at the end. Some of the musical highlights include Got to Get you into my Life by Earth Wind and Fire, a silly Steve Martin doing Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Billy Preston performing Get Back, Aerosmith performing Come Together and Alice Cooper as the Sun King. George Burns is the mayor and performs Fixing a Hole and The Bee Gees and Peter Frampton were Sgt Pepper's band and performed many songs from Sgt Pepper and Abbey Road. Overall, the musical numbers outside of Frampton and the Bee Gees made this movie worth the price of admission. Oh, did I tell you I saw it free at the public library. :-)

Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band movie definitely goes into the so-bad-its-good category, so I'll give it a thumbs up. It was quite a campy little time capsule of the 70s. Most of the musical numbers were pretty good (with the glaring exception of Barry Gibb's massacre of A Day in the Life).

I was kinda hoping for something a bit more humorous, although George Burns had one funny line and Steve Martin was silly goofy fun. The sad-to-happy ending was pretty bizarre, but hey satin pants are magic, I hear... and Billy Preston saved the day so good on him.

The movie was not nearly as bad as Litzomania and almost as good as Across the Universe. SPLHCB had its fun moments, but A Hard Days Night it certainly was not. It was entertaining so see it if you can.
